SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter hospitalised for unknown ailment

 

SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter has been hospitalised for an undisclosed ailment that could see him miss two crucial league decider matches of the Absa Premiership.

News of his hospitalisation for emergency medical treatment was announced by the communications department of SuperSport, who would not disclose the nature of the ailment.

Baxter (63) had been advised by the team’s medical department to seek specialist medical advice after battling with some health issues over the past few days.

He is understood to have suffered significant discomfort throughout Matsatsantsa A Pitori’s (the bourgeois of Pretoria) exciting Nedbank Cup quarterfinal victory against Kaizer Chiefs on 22 April.

Matsatsantsa won the match 5–3 on penalties after regulation and extra time.

They will now face the unpredictable side of Nelson Mandela Bay, Chippa United, in the semis while the other semifinal will be between last year’s losing finalists, Orlando Pirates and Lamontville Golden Arrows, who dispatched Mamelodi Sundowns in the last 16 round of the cup competition.

Baxter, who was in negotiations with the football mother body, the South African Football Association (Safa) for the coaching job of Bafana Bafana, missed the Bidvest Wits match on 25 April in Johannesburg and will also miss the Chiefs match in Mbombela on 29 April.

In his absence, assistant coach and former captain of the side, Kaitano Tembo will assume duties as stand-in coach.

SuperSport wished Baxter a speedy recovery.
