Train where legends play

Highveld Lions pysiotherapist Craig Govender encourages the public to get fit at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium.

The Bidvest Wanderers Stadium famously known as the Bullring is launching a new way of training for the general public called stadium fitness.

Highveld Lions physiotherapist Craig Govender is encouraging everyone to come and explore new ways of keeping fit using the stadium’s facilities. The stadium fitness programme uses the physical characteristics of the Bullring which includes the stairs, grass embankment and the hallowed playing field as people’s primary training tools along with modern training aids.

“We are encouraging the general public to come and train in the most iconic stadium in the world,” he said.

“Life is unpredictable and unstable. So why would you develop your training using stable and predictable routines and equipment? No matter your fitness goal or ability, treat variety and practical application as critical components of your training.

“You do not live in a vacuum, so why would you train in one?”

Govender has been a physiotherapist for the Lions for the past six seasons and says stadium fitness will help in providing strength, stability, power, mobility, endurance and flexibility.

“Functional training utilises exercises that improve your movement proficiency and gives you an edge to enhance your performance so you can achieve your goals safely and with good health,” concluded Govender.
