Johannesburg East cluster makes arrests


The Johannesburg East cluster has arrested 145 suspects from 9 to 15 January.

“The suspects were arrested for committing crimes ranging from assault to murder and rape,” explained Captain Richard Munyayi of Jeppe Police Station.

The cluster is made up of seven police stations, including Cleveland, Jeppe, Hillbrow, Rosebank, Parkview, Norwood and Yeoville.

The suspects were arrested for the following:

  •  2 for rape
  • 6 for armed robbery
  • 9 for common assault
  • 16 for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm
  • 9 for theft
  • 5 for murder
  • for attempted murder
  • 20 for drinking and driving
  • 2 for possession of unlicensed firearms
  • 10 for possession of drugs
  • 2 for fraud
  • 3 for malicious damage to property
  • 12 for possession of suspected stolen property
  • 8 for shoplifting
  • 2 for possession of dagga
  • 4 for kidnapping
  • 1 for possession of dangerous weapons
  • 3 for possession of housebreaking implements
  • 4 for possession of stolen motor vehicles
  • 9 for common robbery
  • 1 for house robbery
  • 5 for housebreaking and theft
  • 1 for sexual assault
  • 3 for theft out of a vehicle
  • 1 for contravention of second-hand goods
  • 2 for contravention of copyright
  • 2 for reckless and negligent driving
  • 1 for business robbery
  • 1 for hit and run.

The suspects have appeared in different courts. Some have paid their fines, others are out on bail and others remain in custody.
