It is alleged that a group of armed robbers, who wore police uniforms and drove in a marked police Toyota bakkie and a white Mercedes Benz, held the airport’s security personnel at gunpoint and proceeded to the airside restricted cargo area and damaged the consignment which contained an undisclosed amount of money. The suspects fled the crime scene with 27 parcels full of foreign currency.

“This is a serious matter and as the Hawks, we will put out all stops to uncover the truth behind this weird robbery. We do not want to speculate at the moment, but we are confident that the people responsible for the robbery will be brought to book.

“The airport is a national key point and its safety is of paramount importance. We call upon the public to provide any information regarding this matter which will assist with the investigation,” said Ntlemeza.
