Eden College in Lyndhurst held its matric dance at Scarlet Ribbon in Greenstone on 20 April.

The matric dance was held early in the year due to requests from the parents and educators as the dance generally interferes with the preliminary examinations if held at the end of the year.

About 100 guests attended the dance including teachers, matrics and their partners.

“This was the first time the school had decided to host this event early in the year,” said Anne Delport, one of the teachers.

The theme was ‘Arabian nights’ and on arrival, all the girls and women received a bindi (Indian forehead jewellery) on their forehead.

The lighting was dim and oil lamps, candles and lanterns adorned the venue.

“Everyone looked absolutely spectacular. From long extravagant dresses to tailored suits, these matrics went all the way to show off their red carpet style.

“The matrics were invited to the dance on a Monday morning in our assembly by two ravishing belly dancers, dancing to Arabian music, who handed out their invitations,” said Delport.

Two henna artists dressed in their sarees were available to do henna designs for anyone interested.

“The matric dance was thoroughly enjoyed by each and every guest, from teacher to learner. The food was phenomenal and the music hit the right beats as the matrics danced the night away,” she said.
