Local schools to face-off in Danone soccer affair

Johannesburg Primary Schools League will be joining in the Danone Nations Cup this year with 18 schools competing for two places in the Gauteng provincial finals in Boksburg on Saturday, 17 June.

Danone Nations Cup made the official announcement in a statement released on Thursday, 11 May.

The Joburg league comprises about 100 schools including former model C, private and independent schools and has previously not been part of the Danone Nations Cup.

A call to enter was sent to all schools with 18 keen to participate, according to the statement which said that this number is set to increase over the next couple of years.

“The Danone Nations Cup games will take place at St Davids Marist Inanda on 15, 16 and 17 May between 2.30pm and 4.30pm. The schools have been divided into three groups of six teams and will play a round robin, progressing to semi-finals, league winners and the best runner-up,” said the statement.

Teams that qualify for the final encounter will participate in the provincial finals with eight regional finalists that will come through the South African Schools Football Association (Sasfa) structures.

  • Deutshue Schule
  • Maryvale Primary School

  • Grayston Primary School
  • Norwood Primary School
  • Fairways Primary School
  • Rivonia Primary School
  • Crawford Fourways
  • King Davids Sandton
  • Hirsch Lyons Primary School
  • Orange Grove Primary School
  • Bryneven Primary School
  • Reddam House
  • Houghton Primary School
  • Bryanston Primary School.
