Jacoba FC unbeaten

Jacoba FC is playing in the Premier League of the Rand Central Local Football Association.

After being promoted to the premier league of the Rand Central Local Football Association following their massive 11–0 win over Summerhill Football Club, Jacoba Football Academy is top of the log after 10 games.

The academy was promoted from the Rand Central division 1 league, said Dimitri Athanasopoulos, chairman of the club.

Athanasopoulos said the boys’ commitment and dedication to the game have allowed them to implement the tactical and technical master plan of the academy.

This, in turn, allows the academy to play a certain way and win a certain way, added Athanasopoulos.

“All the correct preparations are in place as we are looking to acquire a status into the SAB league coming August.

“We are excited about the level of growth this year and we only look to grow in numbers in the near future,” he said.

In their highly anticipated premier league fixture against Monashe University FC who are coached by ex-professional player Siphiwe Mkhonza, the Academy secured a 1–0 win.

Athanasopoulos said his team held their defensive shape extremely well as the opposition attacked wave after wave. Jacoba absorbed the pressure in the first half and forced their style of play on the opposition but couldn’t find their rhythm, he added.

“In the second stanza, Jacoba FC changed their tactics and attacked from wider positions forcing the opposition to deal with width creating space in more central areas,” Athanasopoulos said.

“Our midfielders dictated areas of penetration which allowed us more moments in control of the game.”

Jacoba scored in the second half to maintain their unbeaten run in the league.
