UPDATE: Police investigation delays Sandile Mantsoe’s trial

Sandile Mantsoe is accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Karabo Mokoena and he is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates' Court on 15 August.

National Prosecution Authority spokesperson, Phindi Louw said the case against Sandile Mantsoe, who is accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend Karabo Mokoena, is still being delayed.

Louw told the North Eastern Tribune on 2 August in an exclusive interview that the delay is due to pending investigations.

Mantsoe is due back at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 15 August after he appeared briefly before the magistrate on 28 July.

He was denied bail on 30 June by magistrate Carlo Labuschagne citing that he was a flight risk.

Mantsoe is accused of killing Mokoena and dumping her body in a shallow grave in Lyndhurst before setting it alight on 28 April.

He faces charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.

Mokoena apparently went missing on 27 April and since that time, the family tried to locate her, even through social media platforms, but to no avail. It is apparent that even her alleged murderer assisted in the search.

Her body was discovered on 28 April in Lyndhurst and the family was only notified on 10 May.

Damning evidence has since been presented before the court by the state during the bail proceedings, however, bail was denied.

Louw said they are waiting for the full completion of the investigation to go ahead with a trial.

“The accused remains in police custody pending the investigation. The state is not yet ready to proceed to trial because we still have an outstanding investigation that needs to be completed.”
