Glera to appoint new committee to lead the association

Abey Mamaregane, chairperson of Glera is inviting residents to attend the AGM to appoint new committee members.

Residents are urged to attend the annual general meeting of the Greater Lombardy East Residents Association (Glera) to help elect new office bearers.

The meeting will be held on Saturday 12 August at the Methodist Church in Lombardy East in the afternoon at 2pm. All residents are invited.

“The meeting will provide a review of the past year and a preview of the year ahead,” said Abey Mamaregane, current chairperson of the association.

Mamaregane said there will also be an opportunity for the residents to set a mandate for the year ahead, hence it is imperative that residents who care about the community should attend.

He said they have also extended an invitation to the councillor, Irene Rugheimer to address issues that are of concern to the residents. “It’s important for the community to attend the meeting as the association is for us to work together in maintaining the quality of life we want in our suburb.

“These include how we deal with crime, ensure the cleanliness of the suburb, maintenance of services by the municipality and getting to know one another as neighbours and as a community at large,” said Mamaregane.

The meeting will also hold elections for the new office bearers for the positions of chairman, vice-chairman, treasurer and secretary. Mamaregane said residents who wish to be office bearers in should be able to read and write and also care about the issues affecting the residents and the community.

One of the main aspects of the association, said the chairperson, is being able to communicate with the residents via all forms of electronic communications and print media.

“The outgoing committee will assist incumbents and hand over all the necessary documents for a smooth transition.

“The outgoing committee members will, however, remain as members and therefore will help with day-to-day operations of the association,” he said.

All residents who will be participating in appointing new committee members are required to bring their IDs and proof of residency in the suburb.”
