#ICYMI: Eight suspects arrested for failed robbery

Eight suspects, including one woman, were arrested by Norwood police for an alleged failed robbery which took place in Houghton on 25 August.

According to the spokesperson for Norwood Police Station, Captain Elliot Tshivhase, the suspects tried to rob a residence on 7th Avenue in Houghton.

Tshivhase said the suspects allegedly entered a guard house and held the guard at gunpoint before ordering him to lie down. The suspects allegedly assaulted him.

Tshivhase said, “One of the suspects shot the security guard in the finger, then apparently an argument ensued between the suspects about the shooting and they then fled the scene in a red VW.

“One of our officers who was patrolling the area heard via our radio network about a robbery taking place in the area and rushed to the scene.”

On arrival, Tshivhase said the officer drove around the area and, with help from other police officers, spotted the suspects.

“The police managed to stop the car, which was driving at high speed with their lights off, just after midnight. All the suspects were arrested.”

He said they seized two unlicensed firearms, ammunition, police’s case dockets, a fake police appointment certificate, a police beanie and cable wires.

“The serial numbers of the firearms have been tampered with.”
