132 suspects bust by Joburg east cluster police in a week

 

The Joburg east police cluster arrested 132 suspects in connection with different crimes ranging from murder and rape to concealment of birth.

Cluster spokesperson Captain Richard Munyai said the arrests were made between 2 and 8 October, in connection with the following crimes:

  • 1 attempted robbery
  • 1 attempted business break-in
  • 1 concealment of birth
  • 1 murder
  • 1 robbery
  • 1 housebreaking and theft
  • 1 discharging a firearm in a public place
  • 1 reckless driving
  • 2 possession of an unlicensed firearm
  • 2 rape
  • 3 theft of copper cables
  • 3 armed robbery
  • 3 possession of stolen property
  • 3 public drinking
  • 3 possession of stolen motor vehicle
  • 4 intimidation
  • 4 warrants of arrest
  • 4 malicious damage to property
  • 6 drunken driving
  • 14 shoplifting
  • 15 assault
  • 16 possession of dagga
  • 18 assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • 18 fraud
  • 21 theft

Munyai said the police stations in the cluster worked extremely hard to make all the arrests.

“The management praises the Joburg east community for working with them and giving them information when they notice anything suspicious taking place,” said Munyai.

Most of the suspects have already appeared in court while others still have to be charged. Some of the suspects have paid fines while others were let out on bail. In some cases, the suspects remain in police custody while further investigations continue.

The police will arrest those who are caught contravening the law, he said in conclusion.
