St Mary’s Junior School Waverly is carrying on its tradition of giving back to the community through their involvement in the Donate a pair Show you Care tekkie collection this year.

Headed by the junior school teacher and community service coordinator, Linda Maishman, who said that the donation box is one of the many programmes that the school runs. “We do a number of things around the school including helping at Kids Haven in Benoni and the local SPCA, so the Spar tekkie collection is a natural thing for us and fits with our need to give back.”

She added, “St Mary’s School mission is all about community and integrity and this collection is a great fit. Our pupils are extremely involved in various sports and we have such an advantage from where we are. We believe this tekkie drive will help a little, for pupils from less fortunate schools who play sport but don’t have takkies to truly excel.”

Maishman said that the Spar’s tekkie collection boxes also give their pupils a chance to be grateful for all they have and to understand how sheltered they are, giving them a different perspective of the world they live in.

Commenting on the initiative, Maishman concluded, “It’s incredible how the Spar Women’s Race has grown and I think it’s important how corporates have been giving back while bringing us in. I’d like to thank Spar for the great initiative.”
