The Eastridge Christian School in Bramley gathered at their local park to hand over much-needed food parcels to the homeless on 7 March.

Throughout February and early March, the pupils and parents of the school collected various items such as canned foods and bread, packaged into small parcels, for the handover. School principal Humphrey Chipunza said, “We had a month-long programme when we communicated with the parents in January to bring forth food parcels.”

The school was able to collect over 50 food parcels. Local business owner Tony Gopi also sponsored the programme with a few boxes of bread.

The school hosted a small handover at their local park with some of the homeless from the surrounding areas. Chipunza said, “This programme is to teach learners about the importance of giving. We want our learners to realise that giving is one of the most important things.

The Eastridge Christian School choir entertains all who attended the handover.

“The integral lesson that we want our learners to take away from this is to realise the situation our community is in. There are people who are struggling or are unemployed and they should help those in need.”

The handover was led by Pastor Oetla Simankane who led a short prayer before the handover began. The local homeless were also treated to a performance by the Eastridge Christian School’s choir.
