Planned protest action against Cash-inTransit violence and crime

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (Fedusa) and the Motor Transport Workers Union’s (MTWU) have confirmed that planned protest action for Cash in Transit (CIT) will go ahead on 12 June.

Last week, MTWU and South Africa’s major CIT companies met to discuss and agree on the high-level principles and the rules of engagement for Tuesday’s 12 June 2018 protest action. SBV Services has announced full support for the protest action and believes it’s imperative for all parties to collaborate in order to mitigate the risks facing the cash services industry.

Protest action will commence at 9.30am in Braamfontein at SAMBRO, 20 De Korte Street. Participants will walk to Beyers Naude Square via Jorissen, Biccard and Simmonds, to hand over a memorandum to Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane.

“Our industry is faced with a severe crisis as a result of the daily spate of cash-in-transit attacks that threaten the safety of our employees and members of the public,” says Mark Barrett, SBV Services Group CEO. “SBV stands united with all stakeholders in the cash services sector in the fight against cash-in-transit violence and crime. The safety of our people, the public, our customers and our service levels are at all times a key priority for SBV.”

SBV has communicated with its clients regarding the protest action and will work closely with them to minimize the disruption to business.
