A heart-warming gift for children and elderly at Nazareth House in Yeoville

The children and elderly at Nazareth House in Yeoville were given warm gifts in the form of blankets from 67 Blankets on 7 June.

Nazareth House is a non-profit organisation that aims to look after abandoned children and the impoverished elderly. The members from 67 Blankets visited the organisation in Yeoville to socialise with its residents and hand out blankets.

Founder of 67 Blankets Carolyn Steyn, whose mother grew up in Nazareth House, said that the organisation is a special place. She added that 67 Blankets had visited the organisation before, but there is always need for blankets in their local communities.

The handout also saw 67 Blankets being joined by Junior Hill. Hill is a local boy who attended the 67 Blankets’ Guinness Book of World Records event in 2015 where they laid out the ‘The Largest Crochet Blanket in the World’ at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

Steyn said that she met Hill at the event and gave him a crocheting lesson which gave him the inspiration to make his own blankets to donate. “I didn’t reali’se then that he would be back in my life five years later with some of the most beautiful blankets,” added Steyn.

Hill said, “I made these blankets for the children who don’t have parents. I want the blankets to keep them warm, and help them feel they are not alone and they are loved.”

Caregiver at Nazareth House Neo Khumalo said, “The whole situation is extremely touching… The winter is coming, and we always need blankets so the thought that people made these blankets and gave to Nazareth House is so beautiful.”
