Jeppe police are investigating a case of a shooting on 7 July in Doornfontein which left two men seriously wounded.
It is not clear what led to the shooting of the two ‘victims’ but Jeppe Police Station’s spokesperson, Captain Richard Munyayi, confirmed an investigation is underway to establish what occurred.
The incident happened on the corner of Beit and Davies streets and the two men apparently sustained serious gunshot wounds to their legs and upper bodies, requiring them to be hospitalised.
The incident was posted on Intelligence Bureau SA’s social media site with many people asking if the two men were victims or perpetrators of a crime.
In his response, Munyayi could not confirm or deny if they were victims or perpetrators and would only say the case is currently under investigation.
“I can confirm that a shooting took place and we have opened a case of attempted murder,” said Munyayi.
“We don’t know the reason for the attack. The victims were taken to the hospital and will be interviewed to establish who shot them and why.”
Yaseen Mahomed commented on the post and said, “State’s victims if they were criminals, ja well and good, but these are victims, nothing to be happy about.”
Another user, Lee Lahner, said, “If they are victims their photo should not be posted. Not cool. Come on report the correct story here.”
