Following a fatal robbery of eight students that left one dead, the police are still on the lookout for the suspects.
The initial incident occurred on 20 August but the provincial spokesperson for the police Captain Kay Makhubela said that the matter is still under investigation and no arrests have been made. He added that the police are calling on anyone with information with regards to the incident to contact the police on 086 001 0111.
The armed robbery took place when eight students from a school in Azaadville, Krugersdorp were allegedly coming back from a vacation and arrived in Johannesburg CBD. Makhubela said that the students’ regular driver was delayed and they took a taxi out of frustration at Park Station.
When the students’ driver called them, they requested to be dropped off where they were originally picked up by the taxi driver. The taxi driver refused to drop them off, believing that they were wasting his time.
Makhubela said that they were allegedly driven around the Johannesburg CBD by the taxi driver when two armed suspects stopped them and robbed them. One of the students was shot dead when refusing to give their belongings.
The case of murder, attempted murder, and armed robbery is currently open.
