IN TWEETS: #JoburgBravest honoured in wreath-laying ceremony

Exactly one week from the day that a fire broke out in a Provincial Health Department building in Marshalltown – known as the Lisbon Bank building – a group has gathered outside the building to honour the three brave firefighters who lost their lives in the blaze.

The wreath laying ceremony is organised by the City of Joburg, with the Executive Mayor for the City of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba, and the MMC for Safety, Michael Sun, in attendence.

A statement released by the City yesterday regarding the ceremony read, “Our firefighters in Johannesburg regularly have to face life threatening situations, and continue to demonstrate their bravery in their efforts to keep our residents safe.”

Journalist Chantelle Fourie is also attending the ceremony and tweeting live from the scene:
