Two suspects who went on a robbing spree of pedestrians in Yeoville in order to pay off car repairs were arrested by the police on 27 September.
Spokesperson for the Yeoville Police Station Captain Sifiso Mabizela said that Sergeant Fhulufhelo Sedimela, Sergeant Keneth Mukwevho, and Constable Sibusiso Cebekhulu noticed the car speeding past them when they were patrolling the area. A female victim approached them and said that she was robbed by the occupants of the car.
The officers gave chase and arrested two suspects, one male and one female, in the car. Mabizela added, “Upon further investigation, it was revealed that suspects had damaged the car after bumping into another driver and was going around robbing any unsuspecting victim in order to repair their car.”
He added that their modus operandi involved the female suspect who was driving to pretend to ask for directions while the male suspect, who was seated in the back seat would jump out and rob the victim.
The investigation is ongoing to discover any other robberies where this vehicle was involved.
The two suspects appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court for their first appearance 28 September and will remain in police custody until they apply for bail.
