A year of diligent police work by the Johannesburg Central police has led to a 22-year-old rapist being sentenced to life imprisonment.
Isaac Lekalakala was sentenced at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 5 October.
Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station Captain Xoli Mbele said that Lekalakala raped a 20-year-old physically challenged female in Sophiatown on 16 October last year.
“The victim was in her residence when the accused came looking for her younger sister. Her sister attends the same school as the accused. She was not at home on this day. He took advantage of the situation and started by massaging the victim,” added Mbele.
“She told him to stop but he continued. She also tried to scream but no one came to her rescue. He then raped the victim but was disturbed by a noise outside, then got dressed and left.”
He was reported and subsequently arrested at school on 19 October last year.
Mbele said, “This good conviction is the result of diligent work done by an investigating officer of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Sergeant Jabu Makhubu.”
