The Highlands North Boys’ High School class of 1978 visited their old school recently to celebrate their 40th reunion.
The former learners made a special appearance at the school for their end-of-week assembly and reminisced about their high school days. They also took some time exploring their old school grounds.
Former learner Colin Morris said, “It’s an amazing school and it’s kept some of the ethos that it had in 1978.”
He added, “It’s great to be back. Nothing has changed and it brings back some incredible memories. Everyone has different memories of school and throughout your teen years you have bad and good memories, but the good definitely outweighs the bad.”
Former student Gavin Gaffe said, “I think, for our class of 1978, this visit is a very emotional thing. Going around the school again has been a touching experience for a lot of us.”
Gaffe added that they have seen each other regularly since 1978 but the visit to the school was exceptional.
The entire school gathered for the assembly where the school’s old boys addressed them before taking part in a touching performance of the school’s war cries. The reunion moved onto a formal celebration at the Sunnyside Hotel in Parktown where the old learners had their matric dance in 1978.
